The student drop-out rate is defined as the proportion of first-year students among a first-year student cohort who permanently leave a higher education institution/discontinue their studies without having gained a final degree in their programme. Student drop-out rates are only calculated for first-year students enrolled in a first degree course. They can be calculated for all first-year students, for German first-year students, for foreign first-year students, for Bildungsauslaender first-year students and for Bildungsinlaender first-year students enrolled in their first degree course.
