Key host countries and countries of origin of international students, in 2022

The key country of origin for internationally mobile students is China. In total, around one million or 15% of all internationally mobile students came from there in 2022. This was followed at a considerable distance by India with around 622,000 internationally mobile students (9%), Uzbekistan with 150,000 students (2%), Vietnam with 134,000 students (2%) and Germany with 126,000 students (2%).
The US is the key host country for internationally mobile students. Around 874,000 or 13% of all internationally mobile students worldwide were enrolled there in 2022. This was followed by the United Kingdom with around 675,000 internationally mobile students (10%), Germany in third place for the first time with 403,000 students (6%), Australia with 382,000 students (6%) and Russia with 340,000 students (5%).
