Locations and students of German TNE projects worldwide in 2024
Transnational education (TNE) refers to a sub-area of internationalisation in which universities from one country assume academic responsibility for study programmes in another country that have been set up for prospective students there.
German universities are present worldwide at 41 locations in 28 countries with 313 study programmes funded by the DAAD.
Locations in the EU include Warsaw, Krakow and Prague, in Latin America Santiago de Chile and Buenos Aires, in North Africa and the Middle East Cairo, in sub-Saharan Africa Jos, in Eastern Europe Kiev, and in Asia and the Pacific Hanoi, Xian and Shanghai.
There are a total of 37,740 students worldwide, 65.8 percent of whom are in North Africa and the Middle East, 15.9 percent in Central and South-Eastern Europe, 12.0 percent in Asia and the Pacific, 5.8 percent in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, 0.4 percent in Latin America and 0.1 percent in Sub-Saharan Africa.
