International administrative staff at universities in Germany and their share of all administrative staff since 2016

In addition to international academic staff, international administrative staff also make an important contribution to the internationalisation of study and research in Germany.
Unlike academic staff, however, employees with foreign citizenship still make up only a small proportion of the total administrative staff. In 2023, this proportion was 4.5 percent. However, it has increased gradually in recent years. In 2016, it was still at 3.2 percent. Looking at the absolute number of international employees in university administration, there are even signs of dynamic growth: between 2016 and 2023, this number rose by 134 percent, and between 2022 and 2023 alone by almost 15 percent.
